Abadilé (Pr: ah-bah-dee-lay) is the music and mixed-media project from producer and author TJ Armand. Conceived as a multidisciplinary exploration of words, sounds, and rhythms from across the globe, Abadilé also functions as a performance art project. Sound and video installations are built around Armand's poetry while the songs utilize a large palette of samples and sounds.
At its core, Abadilé pioneers the genre GloBeats— a term coined by Armand to describe an original sound that fuses electronica with global influences, including Turkish and other Middle Eastern traditions, layered with experimental textures. Through GloBeats rhythms, spoken word, and street photography, Abadilé explores politics, identity, exile, and queerness in the context of global migration.
The current releases are comprised of eight singles and a book - available on all platforms and Amazon. The book features 56 poems and street photography from Astoria, Queens. The project acts as both soundscape and archive of immigrant and queer experience in the post-pandemic U.S. The singles also reflect this vision with pulsing electronic backdrops, freestyle vocals, and diverse percussion instruments drawn from cultures around the world.
